Do you have a rubber that is food safe for casting chocolate and other food items?

Certain Smooth-On platinum silicones have received certification for safe food contact. Smooth-Sil® 940, Smooth-Sil® 950, Smooth-Sil® 960, SORTA-Clear® 40, SORTA-Clear® 37, SORTA-Clear® 18, and the Equinox® Series are suitable for creating baking moulds and trays, ice trays, casting butter, chocolate, and other applications used in food production.

These materials have undergone testing by an independent laboratory to ensure compliance with total extractive limits when processed and heat-cured correctly. Please refer to the technical bulletins for these materials for precise processing instructions.

Compliance – The ingredients and ingredient levels in Smooth-Sil® 940, SORTA-Clear® 40, SORTA-Clear® 37, SORTA-Clear® 18, and the Equinox® Series adhere to U.S. 21 CFR 177.2600, pertaining to rubber articles for repeated use, subject to the specified total extractive limits as detailed in the Code of Federal Regulations. It's important to note that FDA compliance does not equate to FDA approval for Smooth-Sil® 940, 950, 960, SORTA-Clear® 40, SORTA-Clear® 18, SORTA-Clear® 18, and the Equinox® Series. To obtain FDA approval, users must also comply with all relevant FDA requirements. Compliance with U.S. 21 CFR 177.2600 does not authorize the use of these compounds in manufacturing baby bottle nipples.

Using Moulds for Baking
Place the mould on a baking sheet for improved stability and handling.
Avoid exposing the rubber to temperatures exceeding 400°F (204°C).
Do not subject the moulds to a broiler, as silicone rubber does not distribute heat evenly.
Food in shallow moulds will bake more quickly compared to deep-draft moulds. Thick sections will retain heat for longer than thin sections, so it's advisable to check frequently for doneness during initial use.
Clean the moulds with warm soapy water and a soft sponge, and rinse them thoroughly between batches or before storing. You can expedite drying by placing the mould in an oven and baking it for 5 minutes at 300°F (150°C).
