How does it work?
SORTA-Clear™ Series rubbers are premium water clear translucent silicone rubbers (platinum catalyst) which cure at room temperature with negligible shrinkage. This product requires a gram scale for measuring parts A + B. SORTA-Clear™ 40 comes in Shore 40A hardness and features high tensile and tear strength.
SORTA-Clear™ silicones are ideal for making prototype, jewelry or other moulds of any configuration where model visibility is important (i.e. extracting a model from the mould via cutting). Materials such as urethane, epoxy or polyester resins can then be cast into SORTA-Clear™ silicone without application of a release agent. Other materials such as wax and low melt metal alloys can also be cast into SORTA-Clear™. SORTA-Clear™ can be pigmented with SILC Pig™ silicone pigments.
SORTA Clear™ 40 silicone rubber is FOOD SAFE and can be used for culinary applications including casting chocolate and other confections.
SORTA-Clear 40 is a water clear platinum silicone rubber (shore 40A) for strong, see-through moulds. It is ideal for cut moulds, detailed models and jobs where you need to see parting lines, trapped bubbles and fine detail while you work.

FAQ's
Q1. Is SORTA-Clear 40 food safe in Australia?
Yes. SORTA-Clear 40 is a platinum cure silicone that has been tested by an independent laboratory and meets the extractive limits of US FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.2600 for rubber articles intended for repeated food contact when processed correctly and post cured as directed.
For food related projects such as chocolate, sugar and bakery moulds always follow the technical bulletin instructions for mixing, curing and post curing before the mould is put into service.
Q2. What is the working time and cure time?
At about 23 °C, SORTA-Clear 40 has a pot life of roughly 60 minutes and a cure time of around 16 hours. Cooler temperatures will slow the cure, warmer conditions can speed it up.
Q3. Which materials can I cast into SORTA-Clear 40?
You can cast a wide range of materials including urethane resin, epoxy resin, polyester resin, wax and low melt metal alloys. Most of these do not require a separate release agent, although a test cast is always recommended.
Q4. Can SORTA-Clear 40 be tinted or coloured?
Yes. SORTA-Clear silicones can be pigmented with SILC Pig silicone pigments to create clear tinted moulds that still allow you to see the model and cut lines.
